Challenges of Grass Roots Organizational Development is designed to help participants decide the value of partnering with reputable non-profit mentors and partners to help build capacity within fledgling community groups.
Capacity is generally lacking in under-served communities, especially those that have individuals, who out of necessity, answer the “Call to Action” to address immediate community concerns and needs. Basic organizational setup, including incorporating, becoming an IRS 501 (c)(3), understanding and complying with federal regulations tend to be a major part of establishing grass-roots organizations. Additionally, recruiting and retaining qualified, dedicated board members who do not constitute conflicts of interests and controlling internal disputes and identifying and quelling personal agendas typically prove daunting.
