John Paul is the executive director of BLDG Memphis – Build. Live. Develop. Grow – supporting the redevelopment of healthy, vibrant, attractive, and economically sustainable Memphis neighborhoods. He first joined the team in 2014 as director of advocacy and engagement, and moved into the role of executive director in early 2017. John Paul guides BLDG Memphis’ capacity building, policy advocacy, and community engagement work with neighborhood leaders and their partners across the Bluff City.
John Paul earned a masters degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Memphis, and previously worked as a transportation planner with the Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization. Prior to joining BLDG Memphis, John Paul worked on projects including the South Memphis Revitalization Action Plan, the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, and the Mid-South Regional Greenprint.
In 2017, the Memphis Business Journal recognized him in their “Top Forty under 40” for his work in planning, development, and public policy. John Paul serves on the boards of Bike Walk Tennessee, Community LIFT, and Explore Bike Share, and enjoys traveling and playing music.
