Karoleen Feng, a woman of color, is one of the most dynamic housing developers in the Bay Area. She has upended the narrative in the Mission District from that of "The neighborhood is lost to Latinx and immigrants" to one of "What's MEDA's next solution to preserving and producing affordable housing and community spaces in the community?" Karoleen’s leadership has changed the narrative in the Mission District: There are now innovative solutions to not just stop, but reverse the displacement of low-income Latinx and immigrant families. To date, there have been almost 1,200 affordable units preserved or in the pipeline to be produced for seniors, the disabled, transitional-age youth, formerly homeless and other San Franciscans vulnerable to displacement. Close to 30 neighborhood-based organizations and small businesses have also expand or keep their place in the Mission as part of the support ecosystem for keeping place organizations.
